Meeting in Cholargos, Greece
The third project meeting took place in Cholargos from the 15th till the 21st october 2017.
1st Gymnasium of Cholargos hosted pupils and teachers from Slovenia, Poland, Italy and Croatia.
Sunday, 15th October
All guests arrived in Athens. Pupils stayed with their peers, Greek pupils and all teachers stayed at Phidias hotel.
Monday, 16th October
Guests were shown around the school, which is a modern building in Cholargos, a part of Athens with blocks of flats and lots of flowers and trees.
All groups showed their films, commercials for a product of their choice. The winner was Greek commercial for olive oil. Pupils also showed PowerPoint presentations about advertising. The whole group visited farmers' street market and the town hall, where we were greeted by the head of the Department of Education.
Tuesday, 17th October
The whole group went on a trip. First we visited Apivita, a company that produces high quality cosmetics using herbs and honey from their own beehives. We saw modern production plant, botanical garden and beehives.
After that we went to Porto Rafti, a small coastal town, where we had local dishes for lunch. We spent some time sightseeing. The last part of the trip was visit to Cape Sounion with the world famous Poseidon Temple and breathtaking sunset.
Wednesday, 18th October
We visited the Acropolis museum and temples on Acropolis, which date from the 5th century B.C. After the tour we had Greek specialties for lunch. There was also traditional music and pupils could learn traditional dances. We visited shops in Plaka and Syntagma Square.
Thursday, 19th October
On the way to Nafplion we stopped by the Corinth Canal. Then we visited Melas, a company that grows olive trees and produces high-quality olive oil. We saw the olive trees, picked olives and saw the olive oil production plant.
After that we visited Epidaurus, ancient open-air theatre, famous for pefect acoustics. All 14 thousand spectators can hear the words said in the middle of the stage.
We spent the afternoon in Nafplion, a beautiful town, which was the capital of Greece for some time in the 19th century.
Friday, 20th October
Guest pupils went to classes with their hosts. Then we had group activities: working in the garden, packaging herbs and the fair of products from 5 partner counntries. All products were produced by pupils in their school cooperatives.
School choir performed some traditional Greek songs, parents prepared traditional dishes for the whole group.
Saturday, 21st October
Saturday was the departure day of all groups.
The next meeting will be in Slovenia in March 2018.
